CSA



I've been a CSA member of HighCross Farm since 2010, and really look forward to receiving my box each Thursday during the CSA season.  I've had a great experience each year, and intend to continue being a member of HighCross Farm for as long as I live in Milwaukee.

There are lots of great reasons to join a CSA, here are just a few...

• Healthy Eating - By prepaying for 20 weeks of farm-fresh vegetables, it greatly increases the chance that you'll eat more vegetables.  It seems like once you've paid for them, the guilt kicks in if you don't eat them.
• Cooking is Fun - Half the battle is getting the vegetables, the other half is cooking them. I have discovered so many favorite recipes by being forced to come up with something to make based on the contents of my CSA box.
• Community Connection - You'll get the opportunity to meet the farmers who grow the food you're eating. HighCross Farm offers an annual potluck dinner with farm tours. My CSA membership has even also allowed me to meet neighbors, who have asked me to pick up their box when they're out of town.

Not only do you need to find recipes for your CSA produce, you also need to learn about prep and storage. There are two great books that I highly recommend, which have lots of great info on CSA vegetables, as well as recipes. They are Asparagus to Zucchini and Simply in Season.
