Lately...

I had a wonderful weekend.  My dad, step-mom and sister visited my house for the last time before the big move.  With such a great backyard for bocce it's hard to believe we don't have an offer yet :)

It's difficult being separated from my boys this summer, but I'm making the best of it by taking in the best of what Milwaukee has to offer.  For example, Erica and I attended Feasting for Fido recently, which was delicious and fun.

I loved the event last year but I daresay the food this year was even better!  My favorite was the Peace Bowl from Café Manna which had brown basmati rice and quinoa with summer squash in a cashew coconut curry sauce.  The wine samples this year came from The Ruby Tap and their dry rosé was awesome!

In the past, I've been tempted to attend several different blogging conferences, but the timing was never quite right.  That is, until now.  It was just announced that BlogHer Food 2014 will be in Miami.  I can't pass up a conference in my new backyard, so I registered immediately and am doing my best to talk other Milwaukee bloggers into attending :)

As some of you may have seen me post on facebook, I recently discovered that I won a $100 gift card to Sachen in Milwaukee's Third Ward.  They tried to contact me via facebook message to let me know I had won, but the message went to my "Other" folder.

I had no idea such a folder existed until I read a NY Times article and I'm so glad I did because I have since picked up my gift card and used it to get some cool new items.  I chose a bib for my niece who lives in Seattle, a Joseph Joseph pizza cutter (tried it out this weekend and loved it!), Milwaukee coasters to use in our new Miami apartment and those are just a few of the items I got.

Are you a fan of fruit infused water?  It's often served at work events and made me realize I should really make it at home.  Having tasty water in my fridge hasn't curbed my terrible Diet Coke habit but it has increased my water consumption.

The photo below highlights the difference between water that's just been added to the fruit (mango and cherries), compared to water infused with fruit overnight.  It looks just like freaking Kool-Aid, minus all the sugar :)
